The Thorn

This poem is taken from the book “Becoming a Woman of Strength” by Cynthia Heald.

There are times in life when trouble seems so great and darkness more powerful than light. Our struggles, hardships and conflicts become the bane of our existence. Instead, having a life with God teaches us to embrace our struggles as joys that reveal Gods perfect grace and love, which are really more than sufficient through our trials on earth.

This poem reflects how our pain or thorn is often an obstacle keeping us from seeing God in his truth and love. But when we surrender our inevitable earthly troubles to God his grace carries us through the hurt.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Phillipians 4:4-8
